NFL's Most Valuable Player Award: A History of Excellence

From Aaron Rodgers to Mahomes

The National Football League Most Valuable Player Award (NFL MVP) is an honor bestowed upon the player who has been deemed the most valuable to their team in a given regular season. The award has been presented by various entities throughout its history. Currently, it is awarded by the Associated Press (AP) and the Pro Football Writers Association (PFWA).

Recent NFL MVP Winners

Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, claimed the 2020 NFL MVP title for the third time in his career. He previously won the award in 2011 and 2014. Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, was named the 2022 AP NFL MVP on Thursday night at NFL Honors in Phoenix. Mahomes won the award in a landslide victory, receiving 48 of the 50 possible first-place votes.

Only two defensive players have ever won the NFL MVP award: Alan Page, a defensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings, in 1971, and Lawrence Taylor, a linebacker for the New York Giants, in 1986. Both players had incredible seasons, leading their respective teams to Super Bowl victories.

The NFL MVP award is one of the most prestigious individual honors in sports. It recognizes the player who has had the most impact on their team's success throughout the regular season. Players who have won the award multiple times are considered among the greatest of all time.
